Domestic Cats or Cat Breeds?

Mimi: Domestic or Purebred? Who Cares?

The cats we enjoy as pets today are all domesticated, in that they all descend from a common origin centuries ago. So what is the difference between "domestic cats" and "purebreds?" Is one better than another in terms of beauty and companionship?

Cat Breed of the Week: Scottish Fold

Wednesday August 27, 2008
The foremost characteristic distinguishing the Scottish Fold cat is its small ears which fold forward and downward, giving it an impish look. Scottish Fold kittens are not born with folded ears. The ears of the kittens that carry the gene start folding usually about the 21st day, starting with the outer edge of the ear near the base.

Sweet-tempered and attentive, devoted, but not demanding, the "Fold" makes a perfect pet. As the fold is outcrossed with both American and British Shorthair cats, think of it as as having a "British sense of decorum along with an American sense of self-confidence," according to The International Scottish Fold Association.

This delightfully-posed Fold is "Scotty."

Review - Castor and Pollux Natural UltraMix Dry Cat Food

Tuesday August 26, 2008
My local pet food store does not stock Castor & Pollux foods, so I was pleased to receive two free sample packages the last time I ordered online. My test cats sniffed at the bag eagerly the moment it arrived, so I poured some in a dish next to their current premium dry food.

Whether it was just because it was something new, I couldn't say, but they all dove in, and gave it eight paws up, with the exception of one ingredient, which they carefully picked out and deposited on the floor next to the bowl. My rating is just a tad lower, and I'll explain in more detail in the full review.

"The poll is over and the votes have been counted. Kit and Molly surged ahead in the voting and finished handily with 41% of the vote. Congratulations to their trainer, dietician, and housekeeper, Pat Hollenack! Good luck to all the teams for medals when the official judging commences later this year.
