Cats Site of the Week
dateline 7/3/00

The Cats Site of the Week honors one cat site each week for excellence in web site design, format and content. Much like sites which have received the Best of the Net awards, Cats Sites of the Week simply leap off the screen and demand to be explored. They are really in-your-face web sites, and as such, deserve special recognition. This week's honored site is just that.

Safe Haven for Cats Cats Site of the Week

An explanatory note: Because this site is in frames, I have taken individual pages out of the frame for linking purposes. At the end of the article, I will point you to the main frame so you can explore the site fully on your own.

This week's Site of the Week is one that will most likely leave you with mixed emotions: sorrow, anger and joy, but I sincerely hope not with guilt. I'm not trying to be enigmatic and I think you will understand my meaning after visiting a few pages of Safe Haven for Cats.

Jeri Dopp rescues and raises newborn kittens-- a job that is her passion, sometimes cause for joy, but too often cause for heartbreak. Jerry has absolutely no sympathy for those who fail to spay and neuter their cats, as she often draws the devastating job of burying kittens who have paid the price for this failure.

Raising rescues has both its successes and failures and a few of each are featured on the Special Kittens page, which also pays tribute to the wonderful veterinarians who have supported her through wins and losses. You can share the joy of adoptive parents and kittens on the Adoption page.

Unless you want to land on Jeri's "goat list", I'd advise you not e-mail her about the beautiful litter of kittens your errant cat just gave birth to, but if you've rescued a cat or kitten, by all means, tell her.

If you are the one-in-a-million kind of person who can stand up to this kind of grueling work, Jeri has several informative pages that can help you get started. Perhaps you're already feeding one or two "stray" cats, or a whole colony of them. Your next step would be to trap and socialize them, which always starts with spaying and neutering them. If the thought of hand-raising the kittens already born does not terrify you, or better yet, if it terrifies you but you still are compelled to do it, here are step-by-step instructions for working with newborns.

Jeri Dopp is a beautiful woman in every sense of the description, and it is my humble pleasure to now turn you over to the Safe Haven for Cats site so that you can see for yourself.
